So happy to finally share this beautiful wedding on the French Riviera at the Chateau de la Chevre d’Or. You may recognize the hotel as I shoot here often. This place is one of the most enchanting on the French Riviera. I still remember 8 years ago when I first stepped into the beautiful gardens. I said to myself: I will shoot here! There must be something to that manifesting “woo-woo” because indeed this has been one of the places that I have photographed the most.
One of the things that I love most about the French Riviera is how the landscape basically provides you with all the decoration you need. The florist at the Chevre d’Or, Mara, is simply incredible and creates amazing works of floral art. The best thing about her work is that it really seems to blend into the natural surroundings. After getting some really beautiful work from Mara you area really set at the Chateau de la Chevre d’Or, you don’t really need much more in terms of decoration to make your wedding stunning.
Ashley and Steven’s wedding is proof of this gorgeous simplicity. Besides the fact that they are an effortlessly beautiful couple they really knew what they were doing in terms of attitude and atmosphere. Asides from a few pre-ceremony nerves (normal) they were so relaxed and easy going. This is how your wedding should be, a day where you go with the flow. Of course this is easy when you have Florence at the helm of your wedding at the Chevre d’Or. Everything was planned well in advance so you can just let things happen naturally.
One of my favorite moments from this wedding was the first look. Some couples prefer not to see each other until the moment of the ceremony, however it is becoming more and more popular to do a “first-look” and have a private moment before the ceremony begins. Personally, I love a first look as it gives the couple a moment to release some pressure before the ceremony and share an intimate moment away from family and friends. Ashley and Steven had a beautiful private terrace so we did the first look there. I loved how the photos turned out because it was such a beautiful, raw and romantic moment. In the photos I just love how it’s only them on this terrace and the blue of the horizon stretches on in what seems like eternity.
The ceremony was a beautiful intimate affaire between really close friends and family. Most of the weddings that I photograph fall into this category and to be honest, I couldn’t be happier. The emotional level is through the roof when you are surrounded only by your closest. A lot of people assume that bigger is better, but having a huge wedding with hundreds of guest dilutes the intimacy and the emotional rawness of a wedding. At least, that is my opinion. A great comprise is to do an intimate ceremony like this abroad and throw a reception style party back home for extended friends and family.
If you’re thinking of having a wedding on the French Riviera, I wouldn’t hesitate to contact the Chevre d’Or, it’s an amazing place and the team there will take amazing care of you.
