Is Summer Fucked?

I think we are all collectively wondering the same thing… is summer fucked!? Although we are all grateful for our health and safety we are all wondering what is going to happen to our beautiful months of sunshine on the French Riviera. With all of my work for the foreseeable future cancelled, I’m just like you: scratching my head and thinking WTF.

My way of handling the uncertainty of the Coronavirus crisis has been to create create create. Sometimes I wonder if I’m burying my head in the sand, unwilling to come up to the surface and face the cold hard facts. I think I’m trying to take things one day at a time, one breath at a time and focus on the things I can control and let go of the things I can’t. Being an artist has definitely taught me a lot about letting go of the planned future. Unfortunately as artists we don’t often get the opportunity to plan our months and years in advance like many people with 9-5 jobs. Maybe in the end this is a good thing, as I’m a little bit in the habit already of not knowing what the future holds. I meet a lot of people that are very “type A” and have a hard time with things out of their control. But really, what is in our control? Even if you were the most type A person on the planet, micro-managing every aspect of your life, all your work is no match for a worldwide pandemic.

In the end, those that are flexible and creative will use this opportunity to better themselves. That doesn’t mean you need to start painting the Mona Lisa, maybe the opportunity is just to accept the fact that you can’t control everything. This small detail could be a life changer for you.

Also, in the face of a global pandemic, what is really important? We say all the time, HEALTH, wealth and happiness… but do we really prioritize our health? Maybe this is the wake up call we all needed? I’m wondering how you all feel about this. Here in Paris we are about to start deconfinement and I’m wondering if the world will go back to the same old same old. The tired old normal of people grinding to survive and accepting a lifestyle that favors fast fashion, the latest trends and material possessions over their wellbeing.

Is summer fucked? Nah, the sun will shine just the same and we will learn to accept things day by day.
